Defunct

The Voluntary Gas Tax project operated from 2001 to 2006. In 2007 we shut down the project. We've left the old web pages posted here just for the historical record.

If you would like to contact me about this site, my e-mail address is posted on my homepage.

Voluntary Gas Tax

You can't prevent your car from contributing to global warming, but you can help mitigate the damage.

Carbon dioxide is one of the main causes of global warming, and 20% of that CO2 comes from cars. Joining the Voluntary Gas Tax is an easy way to help counterbalance your car's environmental impact.

How does it work?

We each donate forty-five cents per gallon of gas we use. We pool these tax-deductible donations, and then distribute the funds to non-profit projects that reduce CO2 emissions or mitigate the effects of driving cars. Each year we vote on what the tax rate should be, and on which organizations our gas tax dollars will go to. 100% of the revenue we collect is distributed to the organizations we fund.
